Cupcakes make a great homemade Christmas gift for friends and colleagues and these super-cute and easy cupcake toppers are sure to delight.
I was spoilt for choice when My Cupcake Toppers asked if I’d like to try some of their edible printed cupcake toppers but eventually managed to settle on two different Christmas designs – one on edible icing and one on pre-cut rice paper – and one Cath Kidston design that I just couldn’t resist.
The edible icing toppers come attached to a plastic baking sheet so that you can easily peel them off without damaging the icing toppers whilst the pre-cut rice paper toppers come pre-cut in a little plastic pouch.
The website itself is very easy to use and has a wide range of pre-designed toppers for you to choose from but you can however have your own toppers made by uploading your own image, or sending over your company logo for a corporate event. I’ve wanted to try personalised toppers for quite a while now so that’s definitely something I’ll look into next year for my Mum’s birthday.
My order was processed and delivered within 48 hours so there’s still time to order before Christmas if you intend to make cupcakes as a gift. For me this is the easiest way to make a large quantity of occasion cupcakes as I’m not the biggest fan of working with fondant to make my own as I rarely have either the time or patience!
I love red velvet cupcakes and the red sponge and white buttercream is suitably festive for a Christmas cupcake. I’ll be sharing my red velvet recipe shortly but you can make any type of cupcake and flavour of icing you like; the edible icing is completely opaque so if you’re making up some chocolate buttercream it won’t show through the design.
I added a generous swirl of my favourite vanilla buttercream before pressing the toppers on to the icing. I was particularly surprised by how nice the rice paper toppers looked as I had felt they wouldn’t compare to the more luxurious icing toppers but actually they looked just as good and I preferred working with them.
You can let your imagination run wild with designs if you’re giving these as a gift – in a sealed cupcake box the cakes and buttercream will stay good for 3 days.
I’m a real convert to printed cupcake toppers now as you get all of the effect of a homemade cupcake with less of the effort and who doesn’t want that at Christmas?
